Time Team (1994)
S06E11 Ruined Norman Church - Bawsey, Norfolk
Episode Overview
The live dig takes place at a dilapidated Norman church perched on a hill in Norfolk, a National Trust property that holds the potential for extraordinary discoveries, with evidence of human activity spanning various historical periods. To explore this rich site, the team sets up multiple trenches, including their longest ever. They begin with fieldwalking and metal detecting before diving into excavation. Among their remarkable finds are a Bronze Age arrowhead, a medieval tiled floor, coins, and several remarkably preserved skeletons. One skull reveals signs of a vicious attack by a mounted swordsman. The team is joined by experts Helen Geake, Neil Holbrook, Andrew Rogerson, pottery specialist Paul Blinkhorn, osteoarchaeologist Margaret Cox, and historian John Blair, with celebrity appearances from Sandi Toksvig and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Hugh and Victor assist Saxon re-enactor Russell Scott in recreating a Bronze Age artifact from the ground up.
