Episode Overview
The team embarks on the groundbreaking excavation of a cemetery located at a Roman fort, part of a World Heritage Site along Hadrian's Wall, marking the boundary of Roman Britain. Soldiers who died here were typically cremated, prompting Jackie to create an experimental funeral pyre using cuts of meat. Unfortunately, a heavy rain douses the flames, but a second attempt proves successful. Meanwhile, Stewart focuses on the land's erosion, potentially linked to flooding or an earthquake. After navigating several frustrating challenges, they manage to reconstruct a credible picture of the site and uncover some fascinating artifacts before their time runs out on the third day. They are assisted by site director Tony Wilmott and Roman artifacts expert Lindsay Allason-Jones.
