Episode Overview

Victor Freemantle, a notorious revolutionary, steals the U.S. Constitution, prompting the government to dispatch agents James West and Artemus Gordon to the Panhandle Strip in Texas for its recovery. West, along with Mr. Grigsby, a curator from the United States Archives, locates a secret underground lair where the Constitution is kept to authenticate the document. After confirming its legitimacy, they are met with Freemantle's ultimatums: the U.S. must halt negotiations with Mexico, recognize the Panhandle Strip as an independent territory, and pay a ransom of one million dollars in gold. Freemantle takes Grigsby hostage, but West and Gordon choose to bypass the demands and plan a daring rescue of the Constitution, with Gordon posing as a whiskey salesman while West conceals himself beneath the wagon.
