Abby takes charge of the Spring cleaning at the Bradford residence. Mary feels frustrated when Tom's friend’s son arrives in Sacramento to set up an army recruiting office on campus, clashing with her anti-war views. As time goes on, they begin to understand and respect each other's perspectives. Meanwhile, Tom misinterprets a hug between Mary and Richard, leading to confusion. Tommy steps in to help Nicholas confront a school bully, but one of Tommy’s latest money-making ventures ends up failing spectacularly.
