Stabler and Benson are at odds when Valerie Sennet claims her estranged husband, Miles, broke into her home and assaulted her. With no prior history of violence against him and Valerie unwilling to let her daughter Tessa testify, Miles is quickly freed. This situation escalates tensions between Stabler and Benson; she firmly believes Miles is a threat and committed the crime, while Stabler suspects that Valerie might be fabricating the accusations to retaliate against her soon-to-be ex-husband.
