S01E12 Blood Oath
Episode Overview
In the late 1990s, the New York Metropolitan area was gripped by the unpredictable violence of a new street gang known as the United Blood Nation. Founded in 1993 by inmate Omar Portee at Rikers Island, the UBN was inspired by the Bloods from the West Coast but exhibited a more erratic level of violence. Portee's goal was to unify African-American inmates against rival Hispanic gangs like the Latin Kings. Known as "OG Mack," he directed the UBN from prison and later from the streets of New York. By the mid-90s, the Bloods had spread through the tri-state area, traditionally dominated by the Latin Kings. By 2000, they had become the most violent gang on the East Coast, with OG Mack earning the title of the Godfather of the East Coast Bloods.
