Joanie feels that Chachi might be embarrassed by her since she’s never visited his home or met his mother. To help bridge the gap, Fonzie invites the Cunninghams to dinner at the Arcola's, acting on Chachi's behalf. He suspects that Chachi is uncomfortable with his family’s situation, feeling ashamed of his mother and uncle because they don’t have much money.
