The VCTF steps in to help with a stalled case, but Sam hesitates because her friend and former lover, Michael Westmore, is in charge of the investigation. The focus is on a string of gruesome murders where victims have been burned alive. As they delve deeper, Sam and Bailey clash over Michael’s approach; Sam believes he deserves some understanding, while Bailey argues that his performance is lacking and should be scrutinized. Forensic details reveal the killer specifically targeted the victims' eyes, leading Sam to conclude that he avoids eye contact due to deep-seated shame. When another murder occurs, Sam begins to question if the same perpetrator is responsible. Ultimately, it’s uncovered that the copycat killer is none other than Michael, who is using the same methods to hide the murder of his mistress.
