As a little girl, Allison Tate stumbled upon the lifeless bodies of her parents, victims of a violent intruder. Fast forward to just after her twenty-first birthday, she discovers Marsha Gold’s body, killed in a strikingly similar way. This traumatic event leads her back to the Linder Sanitarium, where she has spent most of her life since her parents' deaths. To help clear her name in the murder, Bob Ranier, her father's former business partner and a father figure to her, enlists Matlock. He gets unexpected support from Warren Kreitzer, an insurance attorney on vacation, who is determined to safeguard Allison at all costs.
