Eugene Dobbs and Nolan Wheeler make an unbeatable team—Dobbs handles the presentations while Wheeler takes care of the investigations. When Dobbs fails to fulfill his commitments to football coach John Kramer, he ends up dead one night at the office, with Kramer as the leading suspect. Matlock steps in to take on the case, partly to show Kramer that not all lawyers are as untrustworthy as Dobbs, and partly because the list of those who had motives to kill Dobbs is rapidly growing. As Matlock and Conrad dig deeper, they uncover a surprising connection between Dobbs, a local water park owner, and Dobbs' wife.
