Luana Walters (July 22, 1912 - May 19, 1963) was an American actress born in Los Angeles, California, who gained recognition in the film industry during the 1930s and 1940s. Walters' journey into acting began unexpectedly when her exceptional horseback riding skills caught the eye of a talent scout at a rodeo in Palm Springs. After winning a women's bucking contest, she was introduced to the world of cinema.

Her career took a promising turn when she visited a friend on the United Artists lot, where Douglas Fairbanks Sr. recognized her potential and arranged a screen test. Unfortunately, the opportunity was cut short when Fairbanks left for Europe shortly after. However, her charisma was soon noticed again by producer Joe Schenck, who offered her a contract after viewing the test footage.

Walters made her film debut with an uncredited role in *Reaching for the Moon* (1930), and her equestrian talents led her to significant roles in Westerns such as *Ride 'Em Cowboy* (1936) and *Where the West Begins* (1938). Despite her talents, many of her performances ended up on the cutting room floor, including roles in *Spawn of the North* (1938) and *Souls at Sea* (1937).

Notably, Walters became the first actress to portray Lara, Superman's biological mother, in the 1948 serial *Superman Comes to Earth*. In her later years, she appeared in B-movies, particularly in the horror and sci-fi genres, including *The Corpse Vanishes* (1942) alongside Bela Lugosi and *The She Creature* (1956). Tragically, her life ended in 1963 due to liver failure linked to alcoholism.
