Gugu Mbatha-Raw
Gugulethu Sophia Mbatha-Raw, MBE, born on April 21, 1983, is a distinguished British actress known for her impactful performances across stage and screen. Her journey in acting began with the National Youth Music Theatre and later at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. In 2005, she garnered recognition for her portrayals of Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet" and Octavia in "Anthony and Cleopatra" at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. Her talents led her to the West End and Broadway, where she made her debut as Ophelia in "Hamlet" in 2009.
In 2015, her portrayal of Nell Gwynn in Jessica Swale's play earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Mbatha-Raw's early television roles include appearances in "Doctor Who" (2007), NBC's "Undercovers" (2010), and FOX's "Touch" (2012). However, her breakthrough came with the critically acclaimed film "Belle" (2013), which won her a British Independent Film Award for Best Actress.
She continued to build her filmography with notable roles in "Beyond the Lights" (2014), "Miss Sloane" (2016), and the Emmy Award-winning "Black Mirror" episode "San Junipero" (2016).
