Lila Leeds, born Lila Lee Wilkinson on January 28, 1928, was an American actress whose career spanned the golden age of Hollywood. She made her mark after signing with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where she took on minor roles in several films, including The Show-Off (1946) and the noir classic Lady in the Lake (1947), based on a story by Raymond Chandler. Leeds also appeared in the Lana Turner-starring film Green Dolphin Street and had a cameo in the Joe McDoakes comedy short So You Want to Be a Detective, utilizing a similar subjective camera style to that of Lady in the Lake.

Despite being the favored choice of producer Harold Hecht for the lead in Kiss the Blood Off My Hands, her career took a dramatic turn when she was arrested on September 1, 1948, alongside renowned actor Robert Mitchum for marijuana possession. This incident led to a two-month jail sentence, and although Leeds was often compared to her contemporary Lana Turner—she was even engaged to Turner's ex-husband, Stephen Crane—this scandal severely impacted her career trajectory. Following her release, she starred in the film She Shoulda Said No! (1949), which echoed the themes of her arrest, but her Hollywood presence never regained its former luster. Lila Leeds passed away from a heart attack on September 15, 1999, in Los Angeles, leaving behind a legacy marked by both talent and controversy.
