Ingvar Hirdwall (December 5, 1934 – April 6, 2023) was a prominent Swedish actor renowned for his diverse roles in film, television, and theater. Born in Stockholm, he honed his craft at the Gothenburg City Theatre stage school from 1957 to 1960. His career took off in the early 1960s, and he remained an influential figure in the Swedish performing arts until his passing.

Hirdwall was particularly celebrated for his portrayals of quirky and obstinate characters, most notably as the eccentric neighbor in the Swedish Martin Beck film series, which began airing in 1997. He frequently collaborated with director Lars Molin, contributing to memorable productions that left a lasting impact on Swedish television.

In December 1993, Hirdwall captivated audiences as the lead character Pettson in “Tomtemaskinen” (The Mechanical Santa), a beloved children’s Christmas series produced by SVT, based on Sven Nordqvist's Pettson and Findus stories. The program featured a daily 15-minute segment leading up to Christmas Eve, further cementing his status as a cherished actor among Swedish families.

His talent earned him recognition, including the prestigious Guldbagge Award for Best Actor at the 17th Guldbagge Awards for his work in “Barnens ö” (Children's Island), along with the Thaliapriset in 1993. Hirdwall was married to actress Marika Lindström, and together they had two children: director Jacob Hirdwall and actress Agnes Hirdwall.
