Barry Dennen (February 22, 1938 – September 26, 2017) was a multifaceted American actor, singer, and writer, renowned for his contributions to theater, film, and voice acting. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Dennen made a significant impact in New York City from 1960 to 1963, notably during his romantic relationship with Barbra Streisand. He played a pivotal role in shaping her early nightclub performances, which laid the groundwork for her illustrious career.

Relocating to London for fifteen years, Dennen reached new heights in 1968 when he starred as the master of ceremonies in the West End production of Cabaret. His portrayal of Pontius Pilate on the original cast album of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1970 led to a role in the Broadway production the following year. Additionally, he appeared as Mendel in the film adaptation of Fiddler on the Roof (1971) and influenced Norman Jewison to direct the film version of Superstar, reprising his Pilate role in the 1973 film.

Dennen’s voice acting career flourished with memorable roles, including the Chamberlain SkekSil in The Dark Crystal and contributions to animated series such as DuckTales and Batman: The Animated Series. His extensive television and film resume includes appearances in Batman, Superman III, and Titanic. He also lent his voice to numerous video games, including Metal Gear Solid 2 and Fallout: New Vegas.

An accomplished writer, Dennen penned the screenplay for the Amazing Stories episode "The Secret Cinema" (1985) and co-wrote "Demonella" for The Comic Strip Presents... (1993). His autobiographical work, My Life With Barbra: A Love Story (1997), offers insights into his relationship with Streisand and his journey of self-discovery regarding his sexuality.
