Adrian Edmondson
Adrian Edmondson hails from Bradford, Yorkshire, where he first developed an interest in the performing arts. He pursued a degree in drama at Manchester University, where he crossed paths with Rik Mayall. Together, they formed the comedy duo known as 20th Century Coyote. Their partnership flourished in London, contributing significantly to the burgeoning 'alternative comedy' movement. They performed at the iconic Comedy Store and co-founded The Comic Strip club alongside notable figures such as Peter Richardson, Nigel Planer, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, and Alexei Sayle. This collaboration led to two influential television series in the 1980s: The Young Ones (1982) and The Comic Strip Presents... (1982). In the 1990s, Ade and Rik reunited for a sitcom titled Bottom (1991), which enjoyed three successful seasons and became a staple of the live comedy circuit, including five extensive tours from 1993 to 2003.
In parallel with his comedic endeavors, Adrian built a reputation as a versatile actor, featuring in two made-for-television films under the Screen One and Screen Two banners directed by Les Blair: Screen Two: Honest, Decent and True (1986) and the BAFTA-winning Screen One: News Hounds (1990). He appeared regularly in the hospital drama Holby City from 2005 to 2008, took a leading role in Surviving Disaster (2006) about the Chernobyl disaster, and portrayed Henry Austen in the TV film Miss Austen Regrets (2008). His most distinguished dramatic performance came as Count Rostov in the BBC adaptation of War & Peace (2016).
