Terry Farrell
Theresa Lee "Terry" Farrell, born on November 19, 1963, is a retired American actress and former fashion model, celebrated primarily for her iconic roles in television. She gained widespread recognition for portraying Jadzia Dax, a complex character in the acclaimed series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and as Regina Kostas in the sitcom Becker.
Farrell's journey began in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she was born to Kay Carol Christine Bendickson and Edwin Francis Farrell, Jr. After her mother remarried, Terry and her sister were adopted by David W. Grussendorf. At 16, she ventured to New York City after submitting her photos to the Elite modeling agency, quickly landing a contract with Mademoiselle. This modeling stint lasted 18 months before she transitioned to acting, studying under renowned instructors such as Kate McGregor Stewart and Stella Adler.
Her early career featured roles in the short-lived series Paper Dolls and the comedy film Back to School alongside Rodney Dangerfield. In 1992, she appeared in a pilot for a U.S. adaptation of Red Dwarf, which ultimately did not air. However, her casting as Jadzia Dax in Deep Space Nine in 1993 marked a turning point in her career, where she showcased her talent for seven seasons.
Following her departure from Star Trek, Farrell starred in Becker, where she was a fan favorite for four seasons. Additionally, she lent her voice to the character Six of One in the animated short film Tripping the Rift, which later evolved into a television series.
Outside of her professional life, an asteroid, 26734 Terryfarrell, was named in her honor in 2001. Now residing in Hershey, Pennsylvania, with her husband, Brian Baker, and their son, Farrell enjoys sewing and quilting, and has participated in local theater productions.
