Popeck, originally named Judka Herpstu, was born on May 18, 1936, in Paris and is recognized as a French actor and stand-up comedian. As the son of Jewish immigrants from Poland and Romania, his early life was profoundly shaped by the Holocaust; he was one of the fortunate children saved by the OSE organization, although his mother tragically perished in Auschwitz.

Popeck honed his acting skills at the Cours Simon drama school and began his performance career on stage using the name Jean Herbert. In 1968, he introduced the character of Popeck, an irritable Eastern European immigrant characterized by a three-piece suit, a bowler hat, and a distinct Yiddish-accented French. The sketches featuring Popeck resonated with audiences, leading to widespread recognition, and in 1978, Herpstu embraced his character's identity, officially adopting the name Popeck.

Beyond his stage performances, Popeck has also appeared in films, including a notable supporting role in Roman Polanski's acclaimed movie, The Pianist. His unique blend of humor and poignant storytelling continues to endear him to fans, solidifying his legacy in the world of comedy and acting.
