Christopher Simpson
Christopher Crawford Gatsinzi Simpson, born in 1975, is a notable Irish actor celebrated for his diverse roles in film and theater. He gained renown for his portrayal of Karim in the film adaptation of Monica Ali's acclaimed novel, "Brick Lane."
Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Simpson was raised in a multicultural environment; his father is Irish, and his mother has Greek-Rwandan roots. His parents met while his father was teaching in Rwanda, where Simpson visited as a child, giving him a unique connection to his mother's heritage, with Kinyarwanda as her first language.
At the age of six, following his parents' divorce, Simpson relocated to London with his mother and sister, Fiona. It was there that he discovered his passion for acting, participating in drama classes at a local amateur dramatics club during primary school.
Despite his mixed European and African heritage, Simpson has often been cast in South Asian roles. His early credits include playing twins Magid and Millat in the 2002 adaptation of "White Teeth," followed by notable performances in "Second Generation" and "State of Play" in 2003. He took on the role of Hassan Sabbah in "The Keeper: The Legend of Omar Khayyam" in 2004, and in 2007, he starred as Karim in "Brick Lane," for which he had just one week to prepare.
Additionally, Simpson has contributed to theater, including a role as Dionysus in "The Bacchae of Baghdad" at the Abbey Theatre in 2006 and performances in "The Knowledge" and "Little Platoons" in 2011. In 2016, he portrayed Sebastian in Bryony Lavery's adaptation of "Brideshead Revisited." Simpson also served as a jury member for the British Independent Film Awards in 2008.
