Jon Kenny
Jonathan Kenny (September 28, 1957 – November 15, 2024) was a beloved Irish comedian and actor based in Lough Gur, renowned as one half of the iconic comedy duo d'Unbelievables alongside Pat Shortt. Their partnership flourished until 2000, yielding a series of popular releases including One Hell of a Video, D'Unbelievables, D'Video, D'Telly, D'Mother, and D'Collection. The duo’s touring came to a halt when Kenny faced a diagnosis of Hodgkin's lymphoma.
In addition to his comedic talents, Kenny was a skilled singer and a passionate supporter of Munster Rugby. He took on a significant role in the independent European film Insatiable, directed by Jessie Kirby, where he portrayed the most despicable character in Ireland, marking his transition into serious acting with his first dramatic role. Kenny had familial roots in the Irish Midlands and the West of Ireland, with connections to Inis Mór through his mother's family.
After overcoming his health challenges, Kenny returned to the stage with a solo comedy act that toured extensively throughout Ireland. In the spring of 2007, he released his first solo stand-up DVD, Back to Front. Later, in 2012-2013, he collaborated with visual artist Des Dillon and musicians Benny McCarthy and Conal Ó'Gráda to create the innovative theatre show Mag Mell, showcasing his versatility and creativity in the performing arts.
