Florence Lake, originally named Florence Silverlake, was born on November 27, 1904, and passed away on April 11, 1980. She carved out a notable career as an American actress, particularly recognized for her prominent role as the leading lady in Edgar Kennedy's comedic short films.

Lake's petite stature and distinctive high-pitched voice complemented her unique ability to deliver comedic lines in a singsong manner, which often led her to embody "dumb" character roles. She became well-known for her portrayal of the scatterbrained Mrs. Kennedy in Kennedy's shorts, a role she maintained until his passing in 1948. Following this period, she transitioned to various character roles across both film and television.

One of her most memorable performances came as Jenny, the telephone operator for Claverton in the beloved series Lassie, where she remained for the entire decade-long run from 1954 to 1964, making her the actress with the longest tenure on the show.

In 1957, Lake took on the role of Mama Angel in an episode of The Lone Ranger titled "The Angel and the Outlaw," and also appeared in the first color episode of Superman as a cave woman. Later in her career, she portrayed Elvira Norton in an episode of Dragnet and had a guest appearance as a blind date for Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Her final television appearances included roles in Emergency! and Baretta in 1976, rounding out a distinguished career in entertainment.
