Valerie Chow
Valerie Chow Kar-Ling (周嘉玲) is a celebrated former actress from Hong Kong, who has successfully transitioned into the realms of fashion publicity and entrepreneurship. She gained significant recognition for her role in Wong Kar-wai's critically acclaimed 1994 film, Chungking Express, which earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 14th Hong Kong Film Awards. Earlier in her career, she was also a runner-up in the Miss Hong Kong pageant in 1991.
In a groundbreaking achievement, Valerie became the first Chinese model to sign with the renowned cosmetics brand Revlon in 1998, paving the way for future generations of Asian models in the global fashion industry. By 2003, Valerie shifted her focus predominantly to fashion publicity, showcasing her expertise in the field.
In 2010, she further expanded her entrepreneurial ventures by launching Mama Kid, a unique children's designer concept store in Hong Kong, which reflects her passion for fashion and design. In a delightful twist, Valerie made her return to acting in 2018 with a role in Prison Architect, a film created by acclaimed Chinese artist Cao Fei. This project, commissioned by Tai Kwun, the Centre for Heritage and Arts, was featured in the Forum Expanded section of the 69th Berlin International Film Festival, marking a notable comeback in her acting career.
