Yu Feihong
Yu Feihong is a talented young actress from China, widely recognized in the United States for her poignant portrayal of "Ying Ying" in the acclaimed film "The Joy Luck Club." In this role, she played a young mother faced with heartbreak as she grapples with the loss of her child due to betrayal. Born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, Yu was raised in a family of nuclear engineers. She began her dance training in Chinese Classical Dance at the tender age of six. In 1989, she enrolled in the Beijing Film Academy's Acting Department, where her passion for performance blossomed.
While vacationing in Shanghai, Yu crossed paths with director Wayne Wang and the production team for "The Joy Luck Club," who were scouting for locations. Although they initially sought to cast actors exclusively from outside mainland China, they were so taken by Yu’s talent and striking presence that they offered her the role, marking her first trip to the U.S. The film was shot entirely in San Francisco, despite its Chinese setting. Following her breakthrough, Yu starred in the Hong Kong film "Tian Di" alongside the renowned Andy Lau. Soon after, she returned to Beijing to serve as an Assistant Professor at her alma mater. In late 1994, Yu moved to Los Angeles to further pursue opportunities in English-language film and television.
