A Thousand Years of Good Prayers (2007)

Plot

Mr. Shi, a widowed retiree from Beijing, travels to Spokane to support his daughter Yilan after her divorce. A librarian, Yilan struggles with her emotions and initially resists his attempts to connect. As she distances herself physically, tensions escalate when Mr. Shi confronts her about a relationship with a married Russian man. In a heated exchange, Yilan reveals the rumors she grew up hearing about her father's supposed affair with a colleague in China. Their strained relationship unfolds against the backdrop of cultural differences and unresolved familial issues, leading to a poignant exploration of love and estrangement.
