Norman Alden, born Adelberg on September 13, 1924, in Fort Worth, Texas, was a distinguished American character actor whose career spanned nearly five decades. Known for his versatility, Alden brought to life a wide array of characters across film and television. He lent his voice to the character of Sir Kay in Disney's animated classic, The Sword in the Stone (1963), and portrayed Dr. Linstrom in the drama I Never Promised You a Rose Garden (1977). His memorable performance as diner owner Lou in the iconic film Back to the Future (1985) further solidified his place in cinematic history. Alden also voiced Kranix in The Transformers: The Movie (1986) and appeared as a construction foreman in John Carpenter's cult classic They Live (1988). His role as cameraman Bill in Tim Burton's Ed Wood (1994) showcased his ability to blend seamlessly into diverse storytelling.
Alden's journey into acting began at Texas Christian University, where he discovered his love for performance through campus theater. Following his service in the United States Army during World War II, he embarked on his acting career, debuting on television in 1957 with The 20th Century Fox Hour. Over the years, he made guest appearances in notable series such as Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, and The Twilight Zone. Alden remained active in the industry until his retirement in 2006, leaving behind a rich legacy of unforgettable performances. He passed away on July 27, 2012.
