Kathleen Lockhart
Kathleen Lockhart (August 9, 1894 – February 18, 1978) was a talented stage actress born as Kathleen Arthur in Southsea, Hampshire, England. Her passion for performance blossomed early, leading her to a vibrant career in theater before she made a pivotal move to the United States in 1924, following her marriage to fellow actor Gene Lockhart, who hailed from Canada.
Throughout her nearly four-decade-long career, Kathleen showcased her versatility on both stage and screen, becoming a familiar face in Hollywood. One of her most memorable roles was as Mrs. Bob Cratchit in the beloved 1938 film adaptation of A Christmas Carol, where she starred alongside her husband, Gene. Their dynamic performances captivated audiences, solidifying her reputation as a skilled actress.
Following Gene's passing in 1957, Kathleen stepped back from the limelight, making her last film appearance in a minor role in The Purple Gang (1960). She was not only a significant figure in her own right but also a nurturing mother to actress June Lockhart and a grandmother to actress Anne Lockhart, continuing the family's legacy in the entertainment industry.
Kathleen Lockhart passed away in Los Angeles on February 18, 1978, after a prolonged illness. She is commemorated with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6241 Hollywood Boulevard and rests alongside her husband at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
