Plot

Texas cattleman Opie Bedloe travels to Maine to persuade his son Joe, a college instructor, to abandon his teaching career and return to manage the family ranch. Discovering that Joe's salary barely supports Connie, his pregnant wife, Opie believes that she needs meat for her cravings. To help, he strikes a deal with local butcher Spangenberg, slashing prices in half while covering the difference himself.
