Melissa Sagemiller, born on June 1, 1974, stands at 5 feet 6 inches (1.68 m) and is an accomplished actress in both television and film hailing from the United States.

Sagemiller's roots trace back to Washington, D.C., where she was raised by a politically active mother and a father who enjoyed a professional career as an NFL player, having played for the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins. She completed her early education at Georgetown Day School. Her passion for the performing arts ignited at the tender age of three when she began her studies in various dance styles, including tap, ballet, jazz, and modern dance. She made her theatrical debut in a production of To Kill a Mockingbird at the age of nine, quickly becoming a familiar presence on the local stage. At 14, modeling caught her attention when she was discovered by Eileen Ford while shopping for jewelry. Eventually, Sagemiller shifted her focus back to acting and pursued a degree in Art History at the University of Virginia.

After completing her studies, she immersed herself in acting once again, training at the Stella Adler Conservatory, NYU's Stonestreet Studio, and Michael Howard Studios. She gained early recognition for her roles in teen films like Get Over It and Sorority Boys, and starred in the thriller Soul Survivors in 2002. On television, she is best known for her portrayal of Michelle Ernhardt in the TNT series Raising the Bar from 2008 to 2009, and as ADA Gillian Hardwicke on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She was later cast in a lead role on the Chicago Fire spinoff, Chicago PD, though she eventually departed from the show.
