Sara Martins
Sara Martins, born on August 19, 1977, is a talented actress with both Portuguese and French heritage. Renowned for her work in television, film, and theater, she gained significant recognition in France and beyond. One of her most notable roles was as Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey in the British-French crime comedy-drama series *Death in Paradise*, which is set in the picturesque Guadeloupe. She departed the series midway through its fourth season in January 2015 but made guest appearances in later seasons, including a memorable return in Season 10 and again in Season 13.
Hailing from Faro in Portugal's Algarve region, Martins moved to France at a young age. With Cape Verdean roots, she began her artistic journey in ballet, making history as the first black dancer at the Lyon Opera. However, after facing barriers at the Paris Opera, she shifted her focus to theater, earning a Baccalauréat with a theater option and later graduating from the French National Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Martins made her television debut in 2001 with the French series *Maigret* and later starred in *Pigalle, la nuit*. Her film credits include a role in *Paris, je t'aime* (2006). Her breakthrough came in 2011 with *Death in Paradise*, where she showcased her comedic talents and quickly became a fan favorite. Reflecting on her time on the show, she expressed the importance of taking risks for personal growth. In 2021, she reunited with her former co-star Ben Miller for a special two-part episode.
