Sander's musical journey began early, as he honed his skills in violin and conducting. At the age of 18, he joined the choir of the Estonian National Opera, marking the start of his professional singing career. By 19, he gained national recognition when he and the swing band Modern Fox triumphed in a talent contest held in Moscow, which led to extensive touring across the Soviet Union and Europe.

Academically, Sander has built a solid foundation in the arts; he earned a Bachelor’s degree in musicology from Tallinn University, followed by a Master’s in film and television directing from the Baltic Film and Media School (BFM).
