Peter Fitz
Peter Fitz (August 8, 1931 - January 10, 2013) was a distinguished German actor renowned for his impactful performances on both stage and screen. He honed his craft at the prestigious drama school of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg during the 1950s. By the 1960s, Fitz had secured a position at Schauspiel Frankfurt, where he showcased his talent before joining the acclaimed ensemble of Berlin's Schaubühne theatre, led by notable directors Peter Stein and Klaus Michael Grüber.
Throughout his illustrious career, Fitz graced many of the most esteemed German-language theaters, including the Burgtheater in Vienna, Munich’s Kammerspiele, and Berlin's Schiller Theater, in addition to performing at the revered Salzburg Festival. His dedication to the craft earned him the title of Actor of the Year by Theater heute magazine in both 1980 and 1983.
While Fitz was primarily celebrated for his theater work, he also made significant contributions to film and television. Noteworthy appearances include the 1987 film *Au revoir les enfants* and the 1984 production *The Wannsee Conference*. His compelling portrayal in Hans-Christoph Blumenberg's *Beim nächsten Kuß knall’ ich ihn nieder* garnered a nomination for the German Film Award in 1996. Additionally, Fitz was a familiar face in various crime films and series and lent his voice to numerous projects.
Fitz passed away at the age of 81 in his Berlin apartment. He is survived by his children, actress Hendrikje Fitz and actor Florian Fitz, and was laid to rest in the Waldfriedhof Zehlendorf, where his daughter joined him after her passing in 2016.
