Ann Miller
Ann Miller, born Johnnie Lucille Collier on April 12, 1923, in Chireno, Texas, was a celebrated American dancer, singer, and actress, renowned for her dazzling performances in Hollywood musicals during the 1940s and 1950s. At just 13, she began her career as a showgirl at the Bal Tabarin, quickly catching the attention of icons like Lucille Ball and talent scout Benny Rubin. This led to a contract with RKO Pictures, where she began her journey in the film industry, despite initially misrepresenting her age.
In 1941, Miller transitioned to Columbia Pictures, where she starred in a series of eleven B-movie musicals, including her breakout film *Time Out for Rhythm*. Her striking presence was further highlighted when she posed as a pin-up in Yank magazine during World War II. Miller's star continued to rise at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where she showcased her exceptional tap dancing skills in classics like *Easter Parade* (1948), *On the Town* (1949), and *Kiss Me, Kate* (1953). Although her film career waned in the mid-1950s, she found new life on stage with standout performances in productions such as *Mame* in 1969 and *Sugar Babies* in 1979, alongside Mickey Rooney.
Miller's achievements earned her a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a Golden Palm Star in Palm Springs. The Smithsonian Institution honors her legacy by displaying her beloved tap shoes, affectionately named "Moe and Joe." Ann Miller passed away on January 22, 2004, leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of entertainment.
