Simon Yam Tat-Wah (Chinese: 任達華), born on March 19, 1955, is a distinguished actor and film producer based in Hong Kong. His career began in the mid-1970s when he transitioned from modeling to acting. He joined the Hong Kong television network TVB, where he gained recognition through numerous television series before making his film debut in 1987. Yam’s elder brother, Yam Tak-wing, served as a retired Deputy Commissioner of the Hong Kong Police.

In 1989, he starred in the groundbreaking Japanese-Hong Kong film "Fainaru Faito - Saigo no Ichigeki," notable for being the first film in which English was spoken throughout. He garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal of a deranged judge in the 1992 crime thriller "Hap do Ko Fei," facing off against Chow Yun-Fat. The following year, he portrayed "Dhalsim" in the action-comedy "Chiu Kap Hok Hau Ba Wong," a parody of "Street Fighter."

Yam’s career continued to evolve as he played Chiang Tin-Sung, the leader of the Hung Hing triads in the "Goo Wak Chai: Yan Joi Gong Woo" series starting in 1996. His Hollywood debut came in 2003 with "Tomb Raider 2: The Cradle of Life," where he played a Shaolin crime lord.

Throughout his career, Yam has earned acclaim for his performances in films such as "Chik Loh Goh Yeung" (1992), "Saat Po Long" (2005), and "Fong Juk" (2006). In 2019, he was attacked during a promotional event in Zhongshan, suffering stab wounds but he successfully recovered after hospitalization.
