Paul Thomas

Paul Thomas, born Philip Toubus on April 17, 1947, in Winnetka, Illinois, was a prominent figure in the adult film industry, renowned for both his performances and direction. Coming from a prosperous family, he was related to Sara Lee Lubin, founder of the "Sara Lee" brand. Toubus pursued higher education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison but shifted his focus to the performing arts, earning acclaim on Broadway for his role in the musical Hair and as Peter in the 1973 film adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar.

His foray into the adult film world began in 1974, after encountering the Mitchell Brothers while performing in San Francisco. He quickly made a name for himself, appearing in his first feature film, The Autobiography of a Flea, in 1976 under the stage name Paul Thomas, though he occasionally worked under other aliases.

In 1982, Toubus faced legal troubles when he was arrested for drug smuggling, serving a year in prison. Upon his release, he made a triumphant return, winning the Adult Film Association of America Award for Best Actor in 1983 and starring in the influential series 'Taboo American Style' in 1985. Transitioning into directing, he began working with Vivid Entertainment in 1986.

By 2007, Thomas had an impressive portfolio, featuring in over 500 films and directing nearly 300. His accolades included seven Adult Video News Awards and two X-Rated Critics Organization Awards for Best Director, alongside his induction into multiple halls of fame, including the X-Rated Critics Organization Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Legends of Erotica Hall of Fame in 2006. He married fellow adult industry figure Anita Rinaldi in 2001. Paul Thomas passed away on June 9, 2025, leaving a lasting legacy in the adult entertainment world.
