Henri Marteau

Henri Marteau, a familiar face to cinema enthusiasts in the post-war era, was a prolific character actor whose contributions have faded somewhat from public memory. His career commenced with minor roles, often resulting in his absence from credits. He made fleeting appearances in notable films, such as Édouard Molinaro's *Un témoin dans la ville* and *Le Grand Restaurant*, where he briefly portrayed a second inspector alongside Louis de Funès. In *Le mors aux dents*, he played a minister, while in Jean L'Hôte's *La Communale*, he was seen as a stranded motorist. One of his most memorable performances came in the acclaimed film *Indochine*, where he portrayed a French colonist and the father of Catherine Deneuve's character.

Marteau's presence was more readily recognized on television, featuring in productions like *Les coquelicots sont revenus* and *Poil de carotte*, directed by Richard Bohringer. He also had recurring roles in several episodes of the popular series *Les Cinq Dernières Minutes*, first with Raymond Souplex and later with Jacques Debary, as well as in *Les filles du maître de chai*. His life came to a close in Paris at the Saint-Louis Hospital, where he passed away at the age of seventy-two, leaving behind a legacy of diverse roles and memorable contributions to French cinema and television.
