Colin Hurley
Colin Hurley is a distinguished English actor known for his exceptional work in classical theatre, particularly with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, and Shakespeare's Globe. His expertise lies in bringing the timeless works of William Shakespeare to life.
Originally hailing from Leicester, Hurley’s passion for acting ignited during his time at Alderman Newton's Boys' School, where he portrayed Le Beau in *As You Like It*. This early experience paved the way for his involvement in youth theatre and various amateur dramatic societies. After graduating from school in 1969, he dedicated a decade to performing in repertory theatres across the UK. Notable roles during this period included Hamlet, Nero in *Britannicus*, and Tony Lumpkin in *She Stoops to Conquer* at Salisbury Playhouse. Additionally, he captivated audiences as Ariel in *The Tempest* at the Gateway Theatre, Chester, and took on significant roles such as Henry V, the Black Prince in *Edward III*, Pip in *Great Expectations*, and Dromio of Syracuse in *The Comedy of Errors*.
Hurley’s versatility also extended to collaborations with Communicado and The Custard Factory, where he played various characters including Tyresius in *Antigone* and Johnnie in *Hello and Goodbye*. He further honed his craft at the Central School of Speech and Drama, graduating in 1981, and continues to be a respected figure in the world of theatre.
