Orenthal James Simpson, born on July 9, 1947, and passing on April 10, 2024, was a prominent American football player, actor, and broadcaster. Simpson had an illustrious career in the National Football League (NFL) spanning 11 seasons, primarily with the Buffalo Bills, and is celebrated as one of the greatest running backs in history. His early fame and acclaim were marred by a notorious trial in 1994, where he was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.

Simpson's football journey began at the University of Southern California, where he won the prestigious Heisman Trophy as a senior. He was the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL/AFL draft by the Bills. During his nine years with the team, he received five consecutive Pro Bowl selections and was named an All-Pro from 1972 to 1976. Notably, in 1973, he became the first player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season, earning the NFL MVP award. After retiring from the sport in 1979, he transitioned into acting and broadcasting, gaining further recognition.

Simpson's legal troubles began in June 1994 when he was arrested for murder but was acquitted in a highly publicized trial. However, he was later found liable for the deaths in a civil lawsuit. In 2007, he was arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping, leading to a 33-year prison sentence. He was paroled in 2017 and released in 2021. Simpson succumbed to prostate cancer in 2024 at the age of 76.
