Dopey stands out among the seven dwarfs as the only one without a beard, characterized by his clumsiness and silence. In the film, Happy humorously explains that Dopey has "never tried" to speak. In promotional material for the movie, Walt Disney affectionately described Dopey as "nice, but sort of silly," capturing the lovable essence of the character.

In addition to voicing Dopey, Collins contributed sound effects to the film by providing the sneezing sounds for both the chipmunk and the squirrel.
