Born in Slezská Ostrava, which is now part of the Czech Republic, Lockwood embarked on his acting career in 1938. He quickly made his mark in the industry with notable appearances in films such as *Just Off Broadway*, *Sherlock Holmes in Washington*, and *Jigsaw* during the 1940s. His filmography expanded throughout the 1950s and 1960s, where he featured in acclaimed projects like *The Wrong Man* and *The Invisible Boy*, the latter alongside Richard Eyer. He also acted in *The Story of Mankind* and *Monster on the Campus*, showcasing his versatility.

Lockwood's talent brought him into collaboration with renowned actors such as Cornel Wilde and Cary Grant in *The Tarnished Angels* and *Edge of Eternity* during the late 1950s. The following decade saw him in memorable roles in films like *Beauty and the Beast* with Joyce Taylor, *Walk on the Wild Side* with Laurence Harvey, and *The Monkey's Uncle* with Tommy Kirk.
