Peter Spence
Peter Spence is a prominent Canadian actor renowned for his impactful roles in film and television. He gained significant recognition for portraying the lead character in the groundbreaking 1986 television film *The Truth About Alex*, which was among the first productions to explore the challenges faced by gay youth. Spence also received critical acclaim for his performance as Jessie in the 1984 film *Unfinished Business*, earning a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 6th Genie Awards in 1985.
His acting career began with a role in the CBC drama series *Home Fires*, where he played Sidney Lowe. During this period, he also made guest appearances in popular shows like *Hangin' In* and *The Littlest Hobo*. After wrapping up *Home Fires* in 1983, Spence briefly attended York University but left to pursue acting full-time, landing roles in *Unfinished Business* and *The Bay Boy*. He later moved to New York City to study at the Circle in the Square Theatre School, sharing an apartment with fellow actors Kiefer Sutherland and Leah Pinsent. In 1985, he reunited with Sutherland in the film *Crazy Moon*.
After his success with *The Truth About Alex*, Spence returned to Toronto and continued to work in television and film, with his latest appearance in the 2016 film *The History of Love*. Additionally, he served as a story consultant for the 2019 film *Tito*, showcasing his versatility beyond acting.
