Ricardo Montalban
Ricardo Gonzalo Pedro Montalbán y Merino (November 25, 1920 – January 14, 2009) was a celebrated Hispanic actor whose career flourished over seven decades, encompassing a wide array of mediums including film, television, radio, and theater. His journey in motion pictures began in 1943 and continued until 2006. Montalbán gained widespread recognition in the mid-1970s as the charismatic spokesperson for Chrysler, famously promoting the luxurious "soft Corinthian leather" of the Chrysler Cordoba, which became a memorable advertising catchphrase. He also represented the Chrysler New Yorker during this time.
From 1977 to 1984, Montalbán enchanted audiences as Mr. Roarke, the enigmatic host of the beloved television series Fantasy Island. His role as Khan Noonien Singh in the original Star Trek series, particularly in the iconic 1967 episode "Space Seed" and the 1982 film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, solidified his status as a pop culture icon. Montalbán's talent was recognized with an Emmy Award in 1978 for his performance in the mini-series How the West Was Won, and he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild in 1993. Even into his 80s, he remained active in the industry, lending his voice to animated films and commercials, and appearing as Grandfather Valentin in the Spy Kids franchise.
