Robert Atzorn was born in Oldenburg and raised in Hamburg, where he initially studied graphic design at the Art School Alsterdamm. His passion for performance led him to the Neue Münchner Schauspielschule from 1967 to 1969. Atzorn launched his theatrical career at the Württembergische Landesbühne during the 1969/70 season, followed by significant engagements at renowned institutions including Schauspielhaus Zürich, Theater Münster, Bühnen der Stadt Köln, Theater Dortmund, and the Residenz Theatre in Munich between 1970 and 1983.

His film career took off in 1980 with a role in Ingmar Bergman’s "From the Life of the Marionettes." Transitioning to television in the mid-1980s, Atzorn gained widespread recognition in the late 1980s for his role in the family series "Oh Gott, Herr Pfarrer," earning him the prestigious Goldene Kamera in 1989. He became particularly beloved for his portrayal of the titular character in "Unser Lehrer Doktor Specht," which aired from 1992 to 1999, and for which he received the Telestar in 1993.

Atzorn's extensive television credits include appearances in popular series such as "Forsthaus Falkenau," "Derrick," and "Tatort," where he played detective Jan Casstorff from 2001 to 2008. His film work includes the 2002 miniseries "Die Affäre Semmeling" and the romantic comedy "Kiss Me, Chancellor" in 2004. Married to Angelika Hartung since 1976, Atzorn is a proud father of two sons.
