Mack Sennett, originally named Michael Sinnott, was a prominent figure in the world of film, born on January 17, 1880, in Richmond, Quebec. He moved to the United States as a teenager, settling in Connecticut before making his mark in New York City. Adopting the stage name Mack Sennett, he showcased his diverse talents as an actor, dancer, clown, and director at the Biograph Company, where he honed his craft.

In 1912, Sennett founded Keystone Studios in Edendale, California, which became a groundbreaking facility featuring the first fully enclosed film stage. He is widely celebrated as the pioneer of slapstick comedy, creating iconic scenes that included pie-throwing and chaotic car chases, particularly showcased in the beloved Keystone Cops series. His innovative approach to comedy not only entertained audiences but also introduced the famed Bathing Beauties, many of whom transitioned to successful film careers.

Despite his monumental success in silent films, Sennett's ventures into sound films did not yield the same acclaim, leading to his bankruptcy in 1933. However, his impact on the film industry was recognized in 1938 when he received an honorary Academy Award for his significant contributions to comedy. Mack Sennett passed away on November 5, 1960, in Woodland Hills, California, leaving behind a legacy as the 'King of Comedy' and a lasting influence on the genre.
