Hoffmeyer's Legacy (1912)

Plot

Hoffmeyer is plagued by creditors but believes his luck has changed when he inherits $500. Excited, he sneaks away from his wife to indulge in a night out, returning home at 2 A.M. with a sense of happiness. However, his good mood quickly fades when he discovers the door locked and his wife demanding the money before letting him in. He stashes half of it under a barrel, but she spots him from behind the curtain. Later, as Hoffmeyer locks her out, his wife, shivering in her nightgown, becomes alarmed by the sight of approaching men and flees in panic.
