Sara Allgood
Sara Ellen Allgood (November 29, 1879 – September 13, 1950) was a renowned Irish actress who possessed dual citizenship in Ireland and the United States. Her theatrical journey began with the Daughters of Ireland, where she honed her craft and contributed to the foundation of the Irish National Theatre Society.
Allgood's breakthrough came in 1904 with her performance in the play *Spreading the News*. By the following year, she had committed herself to a full-time acting career. In 1915, she showcased her talent on an international stage, starring as the lead in *Peg o' My Heart* during a successful tour of Australia and New Zealand. Throughout her career, Allgood graced stages in Dublin, London, and across the U.S., becoming a prominent figure in the theatrical world.
In addition to her stage work, Allgood made a significant impact in film, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her poignant portrayal of Beth Morgan in the 1941 classic *How Green Was My Valley*. In 1945, she embraced her American identity by becoming a citizen. Sadly, her life came to an end in 1950 due to a heart attack, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire actors today.
