Claude Gensac

Claude Gensac (March 1, 1927 – December 27, 2016) was a distinguished French actress whose career spanned over six decades, during which she appeared in more than 70 films and television shows. Gensac made her cinematic debut in 1952 with the film *La Vie d'un homme honnête*, portraying the character Evelyne. She is perhaps best known for her collaborations with the iconic Louis de Funès, frequently taking on the role of his on-screen wife, Josepha Cruchot, in the beloved *Les Gendarmes* series. Her performances in these films garnered her international recognition.

In a notable career milestone, Gensac received a César Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2015 for her role as Marthe in the film *Lulu femme nue*, making her the oldest nominee in that category. Although her film appearances diminished following De Funès's passing in 1983, she remained active in theater, showcasing her talent on stage. In 2001, she made a comeback in the film *Absolutely Fabulous*, marking her return to cinema after nearly two decades.

Throughout her life, Gensac was honored with several accolades, including being named an officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2011. She was married twice, first to actor Pierre Mondy from 1952 to 1954, and later to Henri Chemin, a racer and PR manager for Ford France, with whom she had a son. Claude Gensac passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 89.
