John Crawford
John Crawford, born Cleve Richardson on September 13, 1920, in Colfax, Washington, was a distinguished character actor known for his rugged charm and commanding presence. Over a career that spanned more than four decades, he amassed an impressive portfolio of over 200 films and television shows, often portraying tough or villainous roles.
Crawford's journey into acting began at the University of Washington's School of Drama, where he caught the attention of a Warner Bros. scout. Despite an unsuccessful screen test, he secured a position at RKO as a laborer and later transitioned to set construction at Circle Theater in Los Angeles. His persistence led to roles in various productions, eventually landing him a contract with Columbia Pictures, where he appeared in numerous westerns.
The late 1950s marked a turning point in his career, with notable performances in British films such as *Ordre de tuer* (1958), *La clé* (1958), and *Un homme pour le bagne* (1960). Upon returning to the U.S. in the early 1960s, Crawford became a prolific figure in both film and television, leaving a lasting impression with roles in *L'aventure du Poséidon* (1972), *La fugue* (1975), and *L'inspecteur ne renonce jamais* (1976), among others.
Crawford also made memorable appearances on popular TV series, including *Star Trek* (1966), *Dallas* (1978), and *Dynastie* (1981). He passed away on September 21, 2010, in Thousand Oaks, California, at the age of 90, leaving behind his ex-wife Ann Wakefield, four daughters, and two grandchildren.
