Ellen Albertini Dow

Ellen Rose Albertini Dow (November 16, 1913 – May 4, 2015) was a talented American character actress and drama coach, celebrated for her memorable roles in film and television. Renowned for her portrayals of spirited elderly women, she gained widespread recognition as Rosie, the rapping grandmother in the popular film The Wedding Singer (1998), where she delivered a lively rendition of "Rapper’s Delight." Dow's impressive film career included notable performances as Mary Cleary, the grandmother who reveals her grandson's secret in Wedding Crashers, Disco Dottie in the disco-era film 54, and a comical nun in Sister Act. She also featured in the slapstick film Radioland Murders, where she was humorously on the receiving end of a slap from Christopher Lloyd's character.

On television, Dow was particularly beloved for her guest roles on the iconic sitcom The Golden Girls, where her charm and comedic timing left a lasting impression on audiences.
