Florence Rice

Florence Rice, born on February 14, 1907, in Cleveland, Ohio, was an American actress whose career spanned the early to mid-20th century. The daughter of sportswriter Grantland Rice and actress Katherine Hollis, Florence began her journey in the performing arts with various roles on Broadway before transitioning to Hollywood in the early 1930s.

With her striking blonde looks and wholesome demeanor, Rice quickly became typecast as the dependable girlfriend in numerous MGM productions. Throughout the 1930s, the studio began to elevate her roles, allowing her to appear in more significant films, including notable titles like *Double Wedding* (1937), where she starred alongside William Powell and Myrna Loy, *Sweethearts* (1938) with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, and *At The Circus* (1939), featuring the iconic Marx Brothers. Despite her popularity, she never quite reached the heights of major stardom.

As the 1940s progressed, the caliber of her roles diminished, and she ultimately chose to retire from acting in 1947. Over her lifetime, Rice experienced three marriages, the last of which lasted until her passing from lung cancer on February 23, 1974, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
