Born in El Paso, Texas, Kibbee's journey in the entertainment industry began aboard Mississippi riverboats, where he honed his craft before transitioning to Broadway, where he gained recognition for his dynamic performances.

In the 1930s, Kibbee relocated to California, joining the ranks of what became known as Warner Bros.' stock company.
